Indian Government has finally snapped out of slumber and woken to green technology. Indian Govt is all set to launch a venture fund to encourage green technology research , ths specifics of which will be worked on by NMSKCC- National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change . As reported by siliconindia.com , NMSKCC is in the process of preparing a document for promoting green technologies and would identiy key academic institutions that excel in climate change related research.

Citing the need for technology innovations to reduce energy used by industry and other user sectors, the Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh said that the 11th Five Year Plan has articulated strategies in many of these areas for the country.

Intel has invested $10 million in five companies that develop technologies to reduce electricity bills and greenhouse gas emissions in homes and data centers.As part of a multi-faceted approach to reduce its impact on the environment ,Intel Capital, the company’s investment arm, has invested in companies that develop technology to enable active monitoring of electricity usage. Intel has invested in U.S. companies which focus on better demand and supply of energy to homes and data centers ,smarter grids, smart meters,home automation,energy efficient high-performance computing and in Irish companies which focus on digital power control.Intel has already invested up to $100 million in the clean technology space, said Steve Eichenlaub, a managing director at Intel Capital, during an event in San Francisco.

Intel also has its own Open Energy Initiative  which brings smart energy technologies to consumers, enterprises and utilities. It has successfully implemented energy saving strategies , and over the last 7 years, the company has invested in more than 250 energy conservation projects with resulting savings in excess of 500 million kilowatt hours.
This commitment makes Intel the single-largest corporate purchaser of green power in the United States, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Gone are the days when water was considered sacred… when Ganges was considered as the purest one. One has to reconsider what is pure and impure with the pollution level mounting to the topmost level and climatic change is the necessity for survival We may need an IT guy to fix this problem. That would happen if IT is implemented on a warfooting level.The precious water you drink would become a source of outsourcing.
The IT gaint IBM has started working on opportunities in water Technology. Big Green Innovations, a play on IBM’s nickname Big Blue, is part of IBM’s so-called ‘smarter planet’ initiative that aims to apply information technology to efficiently manage electrical grids, transportation systems and other infrastructure. IBM is looking at three different water segments 1. Industrial 2. Beverage Companies 3. Local and municipalities management.According to an estimate the water market in United states and China is estimatedto be around 10-15 Billion dollars. Water leakage around the world seems to be costing nearly 14 Billion dollars for the Governments around the world. If this can be plugged in. Thus anyone who would underestimate the power of IT has to remember what IT can do for Water management etc.,

Green is the new GOLD now with a wide gamut of top players talking about green activities , initiatives and products in their organization. Green IT is the buzzword today with hi-tech companies like Intel , Dell , HP, TCS  and IBM competing on a new front – to become the greenest business!

The past few years witnessed IT growing  to such dizzying heights that ecological well being and eco-balance went spiraling down .
